INTRODUCTION TO MATERIAL AND MATERIAL PROCESSING TECHNOLOGIES

About the Department

Department of Material and Material Processing Technologies at Turgutlu Vocational School, Celal Bayar University is a new department established in 2011.

Introduction
Our country has a well- developed ceramics sector that is rich in raw ceramic materials. It is developing continuously parallel to changing and developing technology. Turkey ranks the 3 rd in Europe and 5 th in the world in the production of ceramics. In this sector, the need for a intermediate staff is increasing rapidly and there is a great need for well-educated technicians that are educated in accordance with the latest technology and will function as ceramics engineers and unqualified staff. The Industrial Glass and Ceramics Program at the department of Material and Material Processing was established to meet this need. The basis of ceramics as a subject matter stats with soil-based materials. The stages of preparing the dough and having it in the solid form by heating at a certain degree constitutes the main stages of the production of a number of products. Our graduates have the opportunity to work in factories that manufacture floor and wall tiles, glass, refractor, medical equipment and cement or they can either work at the departments of these factories such as AR-GE, offices and laboratories or at the laboratories of universities.

Aims
Our aim is to educate industrial ceramics technicians needed in the ceramics industry, who can maintain production control within the processes of ceramic production and that can diagnose and develop solutions. We also aim to help our students get recruited in this field by providing them the necessary contemporary knowledge.

Basic Subject Matters of the Department
The Department of Material and Material Processing Technologies within the scope of Industrial Glass and Ceramics Program includes subject matters such as all kinds of traditional ceramics like vitrification, refractor, glass, brick, tile, enamel, porcelain, and cement and production of high technology ceramics (structural and functional, electronics, optical, aerospace and automation, bio-ceramics etc.); raw material preparations, decoration, shaping, kiln drying and laboratory.
The graduates get the tile of ‘industrial ceramics technician’.
